On the golf course she is a dedicated professional, but go to a Yankee game or other venue and you just might see her step up to the microphone and sing the National Anthem. Mary Frances Galvano is a singer/songwriter, golf instructor, speaker and author born in Bradenton, Florida and the daughter of former Broadway performer/New York super model, Elizabeth Biggers Galvano, and the late Phil Galvano, Life Member of the PGA and “Pro to the Stars”, who was one of the most acclaimed golf instructors in the country. Bob Hope declared him the "miracle teacher." Mary is the youngest of six siblings, all are golf professionals except one who was a State Represtative of Florida, now running for Senate.
"Dad played his guitar after dinner and I'd sing along." Her dad's golf academy was in the entertainment district in dowtown Manhattan, so often the Galvano family had entertainers at home, such as Robert Merrill, Perry Como, Morey Amsterdam, Frankie Lane, Billy Eckstine, Vic Damone, Jackie Gleason, Johnny Carson and Joey Bishop who helped influence Mary to sing and dance.
Mary started playing competitive golf, singing and dancing by the age of three and was constantly in the public eye from radio, newspaper, and being on stage. Music and golf have always been a big part of her life and she has learned to combine the two. Galvano accounts being around the great talent of celebrities, athletes and her parents' faith, wisdom and training to be her greatest teachers.
Golf instruction and mentoring was given by her father, Phil Galvano. Phil, was a golf pioneer, coining popular phrases used today like "hold it like a bird", "railroad tracks" and "ape stance", and is the author of four NY Times best sellers in golf, holding the first live golf instruction show on TV (ABC & NBC) during prime time. The Galvano Golf Method was born and the Galvano Golf Academy, established in 1941. It is one of the longest running golf schools in the country. Mary continues singing and "swinging", giving her time to helping others learn the game of golf, as well as using her voice to inspire.
